Weekend Sewing

I am happy to share some of my weekend sewing.  This past year I participated in  the We Bee Learning Virtual quilting bee and met some wonderful women online.
I love how the bees help you step out of your box and make you try colors that you don't normally use.  You also end up making blocks that you didn't know you'd like.

My month was December, and I asked everyone to make a block called Broken Herringbone.  Here's my block..

I enjoyed making it and thought it was a good challenge block for the last block of the year.  I fell in love with the colors and the modern look of the block.   I received 8 blocks back from ladies..I may have scared a couple gals off with the challenge of the block, but it really was simple once you got started.
If you'd like to give it a try..I found the tutorial for this block HERE.   One gal did end up making an extra,  she had an oops with her cutting and she was kind enough to send it to me to use in the quilt...

I decided that this would be a great quilt for me to practice some Free Motion quilting and Try a Quilt as you Go technique.   I watched the You Tube Video from Leah Day, a fellow Flickr/Blogger friend - Jan told me about it so I thought I would give it a try...  Here's the Link to the video if your interested in checking it out...

I cut some batting a bit bigger than 12.5 inch square...  Cut some backing squares to use with the quilt...and took each square to the machine... I worked some more on my Stipple stitching... I have to admit..a lot easier on the shoulders to quilt a 12.5 in square vs an Entire Quilt.

I was having sew much fun putting this together that I forgot to take breaks and use the camera ...I remembered this morning when I was attaching the binding.. Uggh.. I really do hate it when I forget to take pictures to share... Sorry about that...

Here's the finished Quilt....Out on my Front porch this Morning...

Here's the Back...  That Oops Block set off the back Perfect.  I appreciate her sending it *wink*

Here's the Puppy as soon as I turned around.... Luckily She JUST had a Bath..*giggle*...  I plan to use this beauty on my Summer Patio table. I think it will look awesome when we have company over *wink*.

I also helped my SIL this weekend with a project she's been working on for a dear friend of ours..This is for our friends son...I did the machine quilting for her on this... SIL did ALL the rest... Hopefully she'll be able to deliver it soon.  I think it turned out great.  Quilting it was a good challenge for me with my free motion technique...SIL doesn't like fighting her machine to do big quilts... I seem to have a better handle on not getting stuck while stitching..*giggle*.  Don't tell my SIL this, but I actually REALLY enjoy doing this part....*giggle*.. I find it fun to try and not work myself into a corner..  Here's a close up of the stitching.. I'll wait to share the whole quilt until it's been finished...

That's the news I have to share... I have 3 other projects that I am thinking about working on tomorrow...Who knows what it will bring, but I look forward to sharing them with you soon!

Hugs Till Next Time...

I was going to do the quilt as you go to my swoon, but I chickened out. Was it really as easy as I've heard it is ?
